You can have access to the same evidence-based therapies — from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to Emotion-Focused Therapy to Mindfulness, and more. Why Consider Phone or Video Therapy?

What if you had an expert therapist in your corner, helping you through life’s ups and downs, and guiding you to a healthier and balanced life? What if you don’t have to interrupt your day to travel to a therapy session, but simply access your phone or laptop?

We understand that many factors can prevent or discourage you from reaching out for help. There’s work and family commitments, the time and cost of travelling, and maybe even some hesitation to take that first step. With our new phone, video and online therapy options we have made it easier for you to ask  and receive  the support you need.

Best of all, our virtual therapy team includes Registered Social Workers, Psychotherapists, and Clinical Psychologists — the same professionals that are available to our in-clinic clients.

FAQs – Phone & Online Therapy

Are my online therapy sessions secure?

Video consultations are encrypted and the content of the video is never recorded or stored anywhere.

Why can't I use Skype® with my therapist?

Skype® is not approved to be used for health-related purposes. All our of mental health practitioners follow the professional guidelines outlined by their regulatory body which mandates their members to follow Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) for their clients’ information. PHIPA calls for a certain level of encryption and a set of procedures for technology services in healthcare applications.

The video conferencing platform we uses 256-bit encryption based on Health-Care & PHIPA requirements for secure, strong encryption.

How am I billed?

You will be billed after each session via our in-clinic payment processing system.

Is phone or online therapy covered under my insurance plan?

At the end of each session your card will be processed and you are emailed a receipt. The receipt includes: your name, your therapist’s name and license number, the service provided, the date of the session, and the amount paid. As each insurance company is different, we recommend that you check with your individual health plan to determine if you have coverage for your practitioner.

Is phone or online therapy suitable for me?

Phone, Video and/or Online Therapy is generally not suitable for you if you currently suffer from severe symptoms of a serious mental health condition, such as Schizophrenia, Dissociative Disorder, and PTSD, which usually requires an in-person clinical mental health assessment and subsequent treatment.

Phone, Video and/or Online Therapy can not provide assessment, diagnosis or treatment of serious psychiatric conditions. We are not able to respond to crises such as suicidality, child protection, trauma, domestic violence, or sexual assault. If you feel distress to the point of harming yourself or others, we encourage you to contact your local crisis line, family doctor, or hospital emergency department immediately.

What is the price of the sessions?

Our phone, video and online therapy sessions are the same price as our in-clinic sessions and 50 minutes in length. Since each clinician is different, we encourage you to call us for further details.

Do I need any special equiptment?

If you would like video sessions, instead of phone counselling, then we recommend that you are a secure network (ie. not public WIFI) and your internet connection is strong and stable. We also encourage you to find a spot where you feel comfortable, that is private and uninterrupted for the duration of your session.
