Psychoeducational
assessment – kids & teens
Psychoeducational assessments offer valuable insights for adults facing challenges in their educational or career paths, whether related to everyday learning or specific areas of study.
The process includes a structured clinical interview and various psychometric tests. These can uncover potential mental blocks, difficulties with focus, or challenges with information processing. The results from these assessments can guide the development of a personalized treatment plan.
What is an adult psychoeducational assessment?
A psychoeducational assessment thoroughly examines your development and current cognitive abilities. We use a variety of tools to measure different aspects of learning, such as memory, attention, and executive functioning. The goal of the assessment is to identify any learning strengths and difficulties. This assessment could lead to the diagnosis of a learning disability, such as ADHD, or other cognitive issues.
It’s recommended when:
- You are continually falling behind in academics or work-related tasks.
- You want to identify learning challenges or deficits.
- Traditional strategies or interventions haven’t helped you overcome learning difficulties.
- You are seeking accommodations or support in educational or workplace settings.
How it works
Once you schedule your assessment with one of our caring psychologists, the process will involve the following steps:
Intake
Our psychologists first seek to understand your concerns. Then, we review your academic records and gather any other necessary background information, which helps us determine the relevant tests to administer.
Assessment
Testing usually involves a combination of the following:
- Cognitive and intellectual testing
- Academic achievement testing
- Attention and executive functioning testing
- Emotional and behavioural testing
These tests can identify weaknesses, disorders, preferred learning styles, and accommodations that could benefit you.
Treatment
Following the psychoeducational assessment, we will create a detailed report with recommendations for next steps. This could include therapies, learning strategies, accommodations, or further testing. The initial assessment is only one piece of the puzzle, and we are here to help you get the support and treatment you need to reach your full potential.
