Through this process, we can help you achieve mental wellness by providing personalized guidance and support. We’ll also provide you with a summary report of findings.

What is a psychodiagnostic assessment?

The purpose of a psychodiagnostic assessment is to identify and diagnose mental illnesses and/or learning disabilities. During the assessment we combine in-depth interviews, standardized tests, and a thorough review of your history to create a holistic picture of your mental health.

Life can feel overwhelming when you are experiencing emotional, cognitive, or behavioural challenges but don’t understand why. This assessment can provide clarity around your symptoms and help you learn what treatments might be beneficial to you.

It’s recommended when:

  • You are experiencing persistent emotional distress, such as depression or anxiety.
  • You want clarity on the source of difficulties in relationships, work, or daily life.
  • You are seeking a formal diagnosis to access therapy, work/school accommodations, or other support services.
  • An assessment has been recommended by your healthcare provider or therapist.
  • Previous treatments haven’t helped, and you are looking to find the right treatment for you.

How does a psychodiagnostic assessment help?

A psychodiagnostic assessment can provide diagnosis for a variety of mental health conditions and disorders. That is what makes this assessment great for those who have struggled to find the reasoning and explanation behind how they are feeling.

Some of the diagnosis’ that can come from this assessment include:

  • Anxiety disorders (Generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, etc.)
  • Depressive disorders (persistent depressive disorder, postpartum depression, seasonal affective disorder, etc.)
  • Mood disorders (bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, psychosis, etc.)
  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)

How it works

Our psychodiagnostic assessments utilize standard testing measures, but take a personalized approach. The process for the assessment is as follows:

Intake

The assessment begins with a detailed intake session where we discuss your concerns, history, and goals. This includes a review of your medical, psychological, and social history to better understand your experiences and challenges. This will also allow your psychologist to identify important areas to focus on during the assessment.

Assessment

During the assessment, you will participate in a range of interviews and standardized tests. These tests evaluate:

  • Cognitive and intellectual testing
  • Emotional and behavioural testing
  • Communication skills and social functioning

This assessment is designed for those who aren’t sure what the root cause of their symptoms. That is why we use a variety of testing tools to gain insights into overall mental health and functioning.

Treatment

Once the assessment is complete, we will provide you with a detailed report that includes your diagnosis (if applicable). This will give you further insights into your challenges as well as recommendations for next steps. This may include therapy, lifestyle adjustments, or further testing.
