Muhammad Umar, RSW, MACP
Registered Social Worker
Muhammad Umar is a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. He completed his Bachelor of Social Work at the University of Regina and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University.
Muhammad has over seven years of experience in the human service and mental health field, working as a registered Social Worker in various capacities ranging from Disability Outreach Worker, Child Welfare/Child Protection Worker, Probation Officer/Community Youth Worker, and Clinical Social Work Counselor. He has provided assessment and counselling services to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families, presenting with issues ranging from substance use addiction, sexual addiction, gambling addiction, work or academic stress, family stress, panic attacks, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, self-esteem, domestic violence, sexual abuse, trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), eating disorders, teen-parent conflict, couples and family issues, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.
Since his areas of practice have been diverse, Muhammad demonstrates cultural sensitivity. He welcomes individuals of any race, colour, ethnicity, religious or sexual orientation. He also fluently write and speak four languages: English, Urdu, Hindi, and Punjabi.
Muhammad is trained in numerous evidence-based counselling modalities such as Advance Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), just to name a few. In therapy, he adopts an eclectic approach that combines evidence-based counselling techniques with a client-centred and strengths-based focus. With empathy, humour, and compassion, he develops and maintains a therapeutic relationship that fosters healing and growth.
